Estate & presentation
The estate comprises 10 hectares of the best land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
In 2006 Philippe Kessler bought the estate, building on the experience gained with Château Calissanne. Today, his wife Sophie Kessler-Matière runs the estate.
The soil of Châteauneuf-du-Pape consists of large pebbles warmed by the sun. During the day, they diffuse a steady and gentle heat into the soil. This transfer makes the grapes more mature and concentrated.
The estate is planted with a mosaic of local grape varieties, as tradition demands. These impart aromatic complexity, balance and power to our wines. The reds are mainly Grenache, supplemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre. And the whites: Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Grenache Blanc.
The grapes are picked in mid-September, transported in crates, and vinified in the winery in the heart of the village. La Clef de St Thomas red wine is made for ageing; the white is best enjoyed within three years. The Pierre Troupel wines, both red and white, should be served young.
