The quarries of Calissanne
These quarries, worked from Roman times until the eve of the First World War, supplied stone used in the construction of many famous buildings in the region: in Aix-en-Provence, the Cathédrale St-Sauveur and most of the city's fountains; in Marseille, the Church of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the Palais Longchamp and the gardens of Le Pharo; not forgetting the famous Pont Flavien (a Gallo-Roman bridge) in Saint-Chamas, and all of Château Calissanne.
